… And a fish!

Don’t pretend you’ve never watched an animation and thought, “I wish <INSERT CHARACTER> were real”, because I know you have.

1. Appa - from Avatar: The Last Airbender. Yes he’s very, very big and you might be forced into bankruptcy by the moon peach and cabbage bill alone. But he can freakin’ fly! Bye bye budget airlines.

2. Totoro - from My Neighbour Totoro. Who wouldn’t want this mountain of furry goodness as a friend. You probably couldn’t get him in the house but so what. You could bask in his benign presence and maybe bounce on his belly.

3. Baloo - from Jungle Book - This easy-going, fun-loving grey bear is resourceful and would be fun to laze about with. I bet he’d be good with a barbecue and he can always sing “The Bare Necessities”.

4. Gromit - from A Close Shave and others. This University-educated, problem solving pooch can read, is handy with electronic and likes to knit. And since he can drive, you could take him for a walk to the pub then he could drive you home. Responsible and fun.

5. Remy Rat - from Ratatouille - yes he’s a disgusting rat but apparently he’s a brilliant chef. No one’s perfect.

6. Dumbo - Who doesn’t like a baby elephant? This one can fly down and get you your morning paper or just relax and be a baby elephant right in front of you. That is all.

7. Pumbaa - from The Lion King - this comical, caring beast would make a great guardhog. You might have to crack a window though. He produces a lot of gas.

8. Jiji - The Black Cat - from “Kiki’s delivery service”. Man this cartoon cat is cute and he talks! So that’s it. What more do you want?

9. Sebastian - Crab from The Little Mermaid. He might try to divert you from your one true love but he does have a lovely singing voice. That’s gotta count for something, right?

10. Pikachu - from Pokemon, he’s cute, he’s yellow, he’s possibly bipolar. Pikachu can store electricity in his cheeks and release it in lightning-based attacks. Pretty useful when cutting in at the supermarket.

And… Nemo - from Finding Nemo. Oh who am I kidding, he’s a fish.

Who would you want as a pet?

  3. Pet *and* slide. Good point. I always wanted one of those giant bugs from Nausicaa, but they would really ruin the carpet…
